Connie Imboden

b. 1953

Connie Imboden received her MFA in 1988 from the University of Delaware and currently teaches photography at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been featured in several prestigious magazines such as Aperture, Camera and Darkroom, FotoPractica, Photographies, Photo Review, Vis A Vis and Zoom Magazine.

Imboden's work focuses on the nude figure in the water. The interaction of light with the water often creates distortions that may be beautiful or disturbing. Imboden's fear of water and swimming has influenced the highly personal imagery that, although not necessarily representing her specific experiences, is visually stimulating.

Imboden's work can be found in many public and private collections around the world including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; The Bibilotheque Nationales in Paris, France; the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany.
