Gregory Botts studied at the School of Visual Arts, NYC and Skowhegan School of Painting in Maine. He has been honored with the American Academy And Institute of Arts and Letters Award For Excellence in Painting, the Adolph Gottlieb Emergency Grant, and has participated in the Death Valley National Park Artist in Residence Program. His work has been exhibited nationally for the past thirty years.

Botts is a figurative and landscape painter who works in plein air as well as in the studio. Painting on site allows him to have a close connection to nature, while in the studio he can adapt and improvise what he has observed. His painting style looks to marry the abstract to the concrete through manipulating color and texture. His gestural brushmarks are placed within a composition of geometric forms. He shows great care in the quality of the surface which is built up by layers of underpainting and impasto.
