Kenneth Proctor
Birmingham, Alabama
He studied at Millersville University, PA and received his MFA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1981. He was Professor and Dean at the University of Montevallo, AL, and recently retired from his esteemed position as Dean at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA, with great honor.
Procter's work is unique in that he uses powdered charcoal as his drawing medium. He creates delicate tones and textures by various effects, such as brushing, scraping, scratching and sweeping the powder. Wooded landscapes are the subject of his mysterious drawings. The subtle light of the setting is emphasized by the strong contrast of the blackness of the charcoal. In more recent works Procter has transferred his language of drawing onto the canvas, exploring colors, transparency, and technique.
Procter's work has been exhibited in group and solo exhibitions throughout the U.S. and can be found in several collections, including the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, AL; Huntsville Museum of Art, AL; Appalachian State University, Boone, NC; Millersville University.
