Kevin T. Kelly
Covington, KY, b. 1960
He studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and received his BFA in 1987. He moved to New York in 1988 and was a studio assistant to Tom Wesselmann for almost six years. In 2000 he was awarded the Al Smith Artists Fellowship by the Kentucky Arts Council.
Kevin T. Kelly's paintings are a wry, complex admixture of sardonic social commentary, the six o'clock news, and the Sunday funnies. His work is infused with a postmodern sensibility and contemporaneous subject matter. Allowing for open-ended lines of query and interpretation without the burdensome weight of didatic pretense. Kelly's paintings have appeared on the cover of New American Paintings in 2000 and 2003 and are featured in numerous public and private collections both in the United States and abroad, including Breitling S. A., The Kinsey Institute, Procter and Gamble and most recently a collaboration with fashion designer, Robert Graham.
